Our Process |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
In
the Vineyard: Our Beekeeper, Keith Fletcher, had another
Zen moment when he found a swarm of
bees displaced by rain. He says,
"Bees in a swarm are some of the most gentle creatures. It is a
surreal, almost spiritual, experience to capture one. I wore my suit,
never wanting to take a chance of stings on my face, but I shed my
gloves because it's easier to work. The bees were walking over my hands
as harmlessly as big houseflies. For those unacquainted with "bee
think", they usually sting to defend their home. In a swarm
state, they
are homeless, defenseless, a hermit crab without a shell, and very
vulnerable. I carefully cut the branch they were on, accidentally
jarring a few loose. The bees were so gentle, I carefully scooped up
handfuls and put them into the hive. Eventually, bees began marching
out of the grass and into the hive on their own -- an incredible sight!" In
the Winery: Lately, Pearmund Cellars has been getting a
lot of attention from the media. Northern
Virginia Magazine included a beautiful picture of our vineyard with
purple flowers beneath each vine in their "Uncommonly Fine Commonwealth
Wines" article. One of their three wine critics, Kathryn Morgan, hailed winemaker
Chris Pearmund for his passion and expertise, selecting his 2005 Ameritage Reserve as her favorite
Virginia wine! And, Simply Wine Today
named Pearmund Cellars as one of Virginia’s finest wineries, plus the Bull Run Observer just featured
the work of our artists and their work. |

Our People |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
If you celebrated
Memorial Day Weekend at Pearmund Cellars, you probably noticed Linda Hendrickson and several other
local artists who gathered at our eco-friendly vineyard to paint
and sell their work. Some of these artists established our Bluebird Trail. A
few bird houses have been colorfully painted; others will be painted
after nesting season is over. A bird house with post and snake baffle
costs about $100, and our artists are finding that a full-fledged trail
is beyond their budget. They wondered if any Pearmund Cellars customers
who are interested in bluebirds might like to adopt/sponsor a birdhouse or help maintain
the trail.
If so, please contact Linda.
She, along with Maril Sowa, Victoria Thompson, and others will be
thrilled with your assistance (and decorating ideas). |

Our Partners & Retailers |

Partner: Founded in 2005, American Winery.Com "bridges
the
gap" between winemakers and wine enthusiasts. Up-to-date information
such as winemaker notes, consumer ratings, critic reviews, and
encyclopedia entries make it easy for consumers to select their
favorite wines for purchasing or adding to their online wine catalog.
Select your favorite Pearmund Cellars varietals for your favorite
out-of-state wine lover! Wine
Store: Chateau du Reaux, also known
as Culpeper Wines, offers a
wide range of wines, beer, cigars, gourmet food, and gifts along with
personalized service. Their wine selection includes more than 200
different wines from over 14 countries. They also specialize in
Virginia-made products and provide wine tastings in the store or at
your location. Ask them to create a gift basket for you, and don't
forget to include your favorite Virginia wines. Restaurant: Jimmie's
Market, the Madison Tea Room, and Kidwell Caterers have been
serving Warrenton customers for over 30 years.
The market is a specialty food shop for wine, beer, home-made
soups, salads, deli sandwiches, and gourmet items to take away or eat
in their
small restaurant. The tea room provides formal, petite or full-service
teas in their antique shop. The catering business organizes
parties for up to 2000 with food,
servers, equipment, florists, cakes, and decorations. Georgia
Dearoff's
goal is to make your day as stress-free, memorable, and unique as
possible. Ask her to cater your bridal shower at Pearmund
Cellars. Inn: The Inn at Vaucluse Spring is a
fifteen-room bed and breakfast spread throughout a small village of six
guest houses surrounding a large limestone spring in Virginia's fabled
Shenandoah Valley. Spacious rooms indulge your senses with
Jacuzzis, fireplaces, queen or king beds, and bucolic views. Sitting
rooms, porches, and outdoor seating abound, providing plenty of nooks
for intimate conversation and daydreaming. The inn's Southern cuisine
uses the best local ingredients, including offerings from the gardens
and nearby orchards. Ask about their weekend vintner dinners. |

Our Industry |
||||||||||||||||||||||||
Robert Mondavi, the legendary
vintner and "father" of
California wine, died on May 16th, one month before his 95th birthday.
A skilled winemaker and public relations man, he waged a 50-year
campaign to (1) rally California winemakers to produce better wines,
(2) show the world that California wines could rival those of Europe,
(3) encourage Americans to drink wine as a healthy beverage, and (4)
demonstrate that wine, food, and the arts were key to enjoying life.
For more information about Robert Mondavi's legacy to the American wine
industry, see Decanter Magazine's
obituary. On another sad, but less important, note, you may have noticed that Pearmund Cellars' wine bottle sign disappeared about the same time. Chris is offering a reward for information leading to the thieves, and our new sign is being made. |
