Pearmund Cellars Tasting Room Manager: Jessy Mahr Jessy Mahr oversees Pearmund Cellars' special tastings, private tours, catered dinners, corporate meetings, and educational sessions. She orchestrates elegant, unusual, and romantic events based on her creative talents, gourmet cooking skills, and knowledge of fine wines. In our January survey, you told us that you would like to see additional evening hours and more varied activities so Jessy has asked our staff to do some brainstorming with her. The list below contains just a few of the many interesting activities that were planned as a result of this session:

Our Process

Bud Break in the Virginia Wine IndustryIn the Vineyard:  Buds are popping out all over the vineyard!  Due to the cold weather, bud break was late this year, but a week of  high-90-degree days has really made a difference. If you visited us last weekend for our futures sales and plan to bring your mother this weekend, you will not recognize the vineyard at all. Our honey bees are working overtime to keep up with the new growth!  We also planted 300 new vines.

Vineyard and Winery Management's Great Harvest AwardsIn the Winery:  Our 2008 Viognier will be bottled on May 10th. That is great news because we are getting impatient. Sips from a barrel thief are not enough of this delicious varietal. However, if you saved some of our 2007 vintage, you will be happy to know that it received a gold medal in Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine's Great Harvest competition.  We also received silver medals for our 2007 Old Vines Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Ameritage.

Our Industry

Help Us Improve Pearmund Cellars Wine ExperienceAccording to a survey by the Wine Spectator, U.S. women who drink wine generally prefer red wine, tend to drink their wine with meals, and make wine purchases based on varietal and price. They believe that drinking wine is compatible with a healthy, balanced diet. It's probably no surprise that 66% of women spend between $11 and $20 per bottle, while another 26 percent typically spend between $21 and $50. The online survey was conducted with Vinexpo as part of a larger survey that queried more than 4,300 women in France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. For more details, see the April 28th article.
