The topic for our first meeting of the new season is particularly prescient. It focuses on wines that are organic, sustainable, and biodynamic. Let us consider.
Organic: grapes grown without pesticides.
Sustainable: involves renewable energy, minimal water use and tilling, other environmentally friendly farming practices, plus values-based consuming by us shoppers.
Biodynamic: Biodynamics involves all the above, plus philosophical and astrological notions of one Rudolf Steiner, father of Anthroposophy, which considers the Earth a living organism. Among other things. You can read some of it here:

Dave Barber, one of our resident official wine judges and general bon vivant, returns each year to deliver the National Tasting Project for AWS. Last year he presented the Rhone Rangers, American wines based on Rhone.
